Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish is a community of Catholic Christians united by a call to live and spread the gospel of Jesus. We believe this calls us to be a caring, comforting and welcoming community, engaged in service to others, sharing our faith and giving thanks to God.
"You have been told, My People, what is good, and what the Lord requires of you:
Only to do the right and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God."
Micah 6:8
Established January 1, 1994

On January 1, 1994, both St. Mary's and Our Lady of the Rosary parishes ceased to exist, and Mary Queen of the Rosary Parish was born! We say "thanks" to our loving God and commit ourselves to move forward together on the next part of our faith journey.

June 29, 2008 - June 29, 2009

.

The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, called for a year commemorating St. Paul in recognition of the 2,000th anniversary of his birth in the city of Tarsus, in southern city modern day Turkey. St. Paul traveled extensively, preaching the Gospel and founding communities of faith, writing to them in his letters, including the Galatians, Ephesians and Colossians.
Word of the Week from St. Paul...

"Finally, draw your strength from the Lord and His mighty power."

New Beginnings...Moving Forward
Construction Update

May 24, 2009
It's finished. Hooray, or as we would say in church “Alleluia”.

The promised date for completion of the bathrooms was May 27 and the goal has been met. At the Bazaar you will get a chance to see the completed work. There are four stalls in the new Ladies room and three in the Men's. There are two sinks in each lavatory. There is also a new meeting room and a new faith formation office The project was constructed by Curtis Abbott Company of Charlton who have been a wonderful company to work with. We are grateful to the workers for their fine job as well as for their cooperation and consideration when Parish events were going on. Thanks to all of you and your faithful support of the Capital Funds Campaign we were able to pay for this first part of the project without taking out any loans and having to pay any interest. A tremendous savings was achieved by the electrical work being done by Deacon Harry and his sons at no cost to the parish except for the supplies and equipment. We are ready to move on to the next phase of the project which will be the expansion and modernization of the kitchen It is hoped that this can be done during the summer months and be ready for the fall season of parish events. I want to thank everyone who sacrificed during the past few months when the hall was disrupted and we had to work with less space and even cancel some of our events. I think that you will agree it was worth it. Most of all we want to thank God who guided us through every step of this project. On this Pentecost we rejoice in the power of His presence with us and give Him praise for the gifts of wisdom, courage and especially love, which have guided us through these past few months. Alleluia!

May 24, 2009
The toilets and the sinks have arrived and have been installed as well as the changing tables. The painter is putting the final coat on the walls and the floor in the office and the meeting room will be installed on Tuesday at the latest. We will be operable for the Bazaar. I can't wait for you to see this wonderful addition to our parish hall that you have made possible. Pray that there are no last minute glitches
May 17, 2009

During this past week, the tile in both bathrooms has been installed and grouted, all of the walls painted and the lights were installed in the bathrooms, the office and the meeting room.
The doors which were used in the Hall at St. Mary's have been installed and will be refinished after the Bazaar. Real progress is being made! You are welcome to sneak a look if you wish.

May 6, 2009 (Editor's Note)
New classroom completed
The Capital Campaign Committee Financial Report indicated a $1,443.19 expense item for the construction of a new classroom. The "before" and "after photos show what a fine job our volunteers did for this phase of our rennovations.

May 3, 2009 (Pastor's Notes)

It's really starting to look like something is happening down in the hall! The studding is finished, the plumbing and electricity are in and the wallboard is being hung. If you want to sneak down and peak behind the plastic curtain feel free to do so.

April 26, 2009 (Pastor's Notes)

A lot of progress was made this week. The tank and the pump arrived and have been installed. On Wednesday morning a cement truck came and the whole area where the bathrooms are to be built was cemented. On Thursday, framing of the bathrooms began and now we can see some real progress! On Thursday we ordered the tile for both the walls and the floors a combination of greens, tans and sandstone brown tones. The Curtis Abbott Co., who is doing the work, has been a wonderful group to work with. They keep me informed of everything that is going on. With no snags, we will have new bathrooms in time for the bazaar

April 5, 2009 (Pastor's Notes)

If you have been down in the hall this past week, you noticed the large area enclosed in plastic. Behind it, a transformation is taking place. The stage area was demolished last Thursday by a group of 15 volunteers from the parish. It took a total of 5 hours to accomplish the work. Thanks to all who helped. Since then the contractors have moved in and removed all the dirt that was under the stage area to make it level. Luckily we encountered no ledge. Today (Wednesday) they are jack hammering and digging to prepare for the laying of the pipes and the tank for the bathrooms. After such a long wait, it is good to see such progress in just a week. As a result of what is going on right now, we are not offering the services of Martha Mary after the funerals for the next few weeks. We are on a strict schedule to get these bathrooms built and working before the Bazaar. Keep up your prayers that the work will continue as smoothly as it has begun.

March 29, 2009 (Pastor's Notes)

The construction of the new bathrooms has begun with the demolition of the stage area. The work area is enclosed with a temporary plastic wall to keep down the dust and to protect everyone from danger. The back two thirds of the hall are still usable at least until we see how much dust is generated and how much noise is involved in the construction work. This may result in the relocation or maybe the cancellation of some classes and meetings that normally take place in the parish hall to other places on the parish property. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

a new stage for our parish...construction has begun

February 8, 2009 (Pastor's Notes)
We met with the contractor and the architect this morning [Thursday, February 5th] and have started to make plans for the construction of the bathrooms to begin. We need to have an inspection by an environmental engineer for asbestos and by a structural engineer to be sure that the pillars located on the stage are secure before we can start the demolition. After these details are worked out, we will be able to apply for the needed permits to begin the project. Some of you who had volunteered to help with the demolition of the stage area have been asking if we have forgotten about you. The answer is no. I wish I could tell you when we are going to begin but all I can really say is soon and when the time comes we are counting on you to come forth and help. The help you can give right now is to pray that we don't encounter any more unforeseen obstacles so we can get this show on the road!!!!

Report on the Parish Meeting (11/23/08)

On Sunday evening we had our annual parish meeting. The revised plans for the hall renovations were presented to those present. Since the economy is so bad we were unable to get a loan from the diocese. As a result our proposal is to do the renovation in stages. We have been given permission by the diocese to use local contractors to do this work as long as they are licensed and insured to the levels the diocese requires.

There are several advantages to this, the greatest of which is that since we will not be borrowing money, we will not have to pay interest. It is estimated that this will save us approximately $200,000.00. Another advantage is that there will only be minor disruption to the use of the hall. The major disadvantage will be that the project will take a longer time to complete.

Stage one is to be the new bathrooms as well as a new classroom and a CCD office. They will be built where the present stage is located. A second classroom and a new office for the Food Pantry will be constructed on the far side of the hall (near the Benton room). We will do this construction ourselves. We hope that this phase can be stated right after the first of the year and be completed by March 1.

Stage two will be the new kitchen. When the bathrooms are completed, we will punch through the wall between the old bathrooms and the kitchen enlarging the kitchen area. This will be done when we have enough money to do it, hopefully during the summer. The final stage will be elevator which is the most expensive part of the project.

As for the financial part, the total amount pledged for the project is $947,978.35. So far we have collected $209,029.00 of the money pledged. There have been expenses incurred including architects fees, principal and interest on the loan for the roof repairs which were included in the original plans and the one time payment to Partners in Charity. We are paying the interest plus $1,000.00 on the principle of the roof loan. At present we have $144,000.00 available for the first part of the project. This was presented to those present and was accepted unanimously. And so we begin a new phase of our parish life, the building phase. May God bless us as we begin this new church year and this chapter in our parish journey.
